About this policy
This policy explains the cookies and similar browser-storage technologies BT iLocum uses on btlocum.com and in the web app, why we use them, and how you can control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy at /privacy — read that for the full picture of how we handle personal information under POPIA.
We keep this deliberately small. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not run cross-site tracking or sell data to advertisers.
What we use, and why
We group what we set into four categories. Note that we keep you signed in using a token in your browser's local storage — not a tracking cookie — and it is cleared when you sign out.
- Strictly necessaryKeep the platform working and secure — your session, sign-in state (stored in local storage), and protections against cross-site request forgery. These cannot be switched off without breaking the service, so they do not require consent.
- Product analyticsWe use PostHog to understand, in aggregate, how the marketing site and app are used so we can improve them (which pages are visited, where flows drop off). It sets first-party cookies / local storage and runs on the basis of legitimate interest.
- Error monitoringWe use Sentry to capture errors and performance problems so we can fix them. It records technical diagnostics, not advertising profiles.
- AttributionIf you arrive from a campaign link, we may store a first-touch marketing source (a UTM value) so we can credit where new sign-ups came from. It holds no sensitive data and expires on its own.
Payment provider
When you make a payment, our processor PayFast (a licensed South African FSP) may set its own cookies on its checkout pages to run the transaction securely. Those cookies are governed by PayFast's own policies. We never store raw card numbers — see /privacy.
Managing cookies
You can clear or block cookies and similar storage from your browser settings at any time; blocking strictly-necessary items may stop you from signing in. Most browsers also offer a "do not track" signal and per-site storage controls.
You can opt out of product analytics from your browser, and you can exercise your POPIA rights — including objecting to analytics processing — by emailing privacy@btlocum.com or using the request tools in your profile settings.
Changes to this policy
If we add or change the technologies we use, we will update this page and its date. Material changes that affect your choices are also notified by email.
